Welcome to the biography of Roger Bergin - Focus Office Supplies CEO

Roger Bergin was born in 1952 in Adelaide, Australia.

His childhood was a lesson in adaptability as Roger attended no less than six different schools due to family relocations ultimately leading to a diploma in accounting studies.

As a youth Roger excelled in sports having been a representative player at an interstate level in both cricket and Australian Rules football.

Commencing employment as a trainee accountant Roger progressed through a series of roles including that of IT Manager, Accountant and Financial Controller of various organisations, including some “icon” businesses, culminating in the purchase of a business known as Frank Vaughan Business Electronics in 1994.

Years of experience in the office equipment field as an end-user, including the importation of Australia’s first commercial barcode scanning application, combined with the disciplines associated with an accounting career, provided the perfect background for a successful career in the office technology industry.

Frank Vaughan Business Electronics had commenced in 1973 as a supplier of basic office needs such as calculators and stationery only to evolve through the intelligent cash register and typewriter markets to become one of Lexmark Australia’s initial business partners, selling laser printers and associated products, when that business was born out of the Small Business Division of IBM in 1991.

Bringing that “end-user” experience and the “team player” attitude learned from sporting experience, Roger developed a new level of customer service now known as POS – Positively Outrageous Service – and Frank Vaughan Business Electronics became well known for being prepared to partner with its clients to achieve a solution to office problems which were not revenue generation oriented, more an attitude that extreme customer service would lead to a mutually successful and longer term relationship between supplier and client.

Having commenced in the early days of the development of the laser printer market and grown with the market, Roger has become an authority in the industry and now plays a more consultative role rather than the traditional sales role offered by resellers. Promoting the true “cost” of buying decisions over the lifetime of a product enables Focus Office Supplies – the organisation that evolved from Frank Vaughan Business Electronics via Cornerstone TSS Pty Ltd – to become a reference point for potential clients to ascertain what “value” really is about in the market for laser printers, copiers (now more widely sold as multifunction devices) and faxes and the relevant toner, ink and other consumables associated with those devices.

Happy to share this wealth of experience and consequent knowledge with the market, Roger is now publishing many informative articles sharing the secrets of buying the correct device for the need at hand – “right fit” is the common terminology.
